Faux Film Festival Changes

TYPES OF FILMS

Faux Commercial
An advertisement for a product or service that doesn't exist. This  includes  in-faux-mercials which demonstrate a product that doesn't exist.

Faux Public Service Announcement
Faux scholastic or government sponsored film warning about the dangers of  something or telling us how to think or act. Some of the real PSA's from the  50's are hilarious without even being faux!

Faux Trailer
An advertisement for a movie or TV show that doesn't exist.

Faux Training
A training video for a faux process or product or spoof of training for a real process or product.

Faux Travelogue
A spoof of National Geographic type films or vacation films.

Mocumentary
A film that pretends to be a documentary but the subject doesn't exist. A classic example of this is "This Is Spinal Tap". It was made in the style of a documentary, but the band does not actually exist.

Parody Music Video
A song based on original music with new lyrics that make fun of either the original song or something else, perhaps even entirely unrelated (example: "Like a Surgeon" by Weird Al). Could also just be a song that makes fun of something - a parody of the topic rather than of an original song.

Satire
Basically any film that pokes fun at something.

Spoof
A film that makes fun of a real film, product, or service. Most faux films are also spoofs. Some are spoofs of an entire category, such as horrorfilms, while others lampoon specific targets. A classic example of a spoof faux trailer is "Hardware Wars". It spoofs Star Wars in the style of a film trailer.

A Night of Horror Short Film Festival Announces Call For Submissions!

A Night of Horror Short Film Festival, Sydney's horror film festival, aims to promote independent filmmakers working in the horror genre from both Australia and abroad. It is operated by the Sydney based film company Lovecraft 21C Productions.

A Night of Horror intends to screen a wide variety of short films. The festival’s organizers believe that the horror genre is the great equalizer of the filmmaking world, with some of the genre’s most memorable and influential films - from NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD, through HALLOWEEN, to THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT- being made on small budgets. In the words of festival director Lisa Mitchell, “We want to see and promote films from all budget levels. We don’t care if your budget was $100 or $100,000. As long as you’ve made a scary, atmospheric, or shockingly funny horror short then it’s in with a chance!”

Films submitted for consideration must be 30 minutes or under, but there is no restriction to the year that they were completed. Those films, which are selected for screening at the festival, will compete for several awards and prizes (including the Kodak sponsored Best of Fest Award) in the following three categories:

1: Short Horror Films
2: Short Horror Animations
3: Short Films Inspired by the Writings of H. P. Lovecraft

Howard Phillips Lovecraft was an early 20th century author, and his tales remain some of the most influential of the horror genre. Festival co-director and filmmaker Dean Bertram, a longtime fan, introduced the special Lovecraft category in an effort to encourage other filmmakers who have been similarly inspired by the iconic horror author, and to offer them the opportunity of having their work screened in Australia.

Lurker Films presents

THE 2006 H.P. LOVECRAFT FILM FESTIVAL

Friday October 6th - Sunday October 8th

copyright 2006 artwork by Lee Moyer

Come enjoy a smorgasbord of tantalizing tales of terror inspired by Howard Phillips Lovecraft's strange universe at the Hollywood Theatre, 4122 NE Sandy Blvd, Portland Oregon.

Founder, director and Lovecraft historian Andrew Migliore is back to bring you this one-of-a-kind festival created to promote the works of the highly influential gothic horror author H.P. Lovecraft (and his peers) through the cinematic adaptations by students, amateur and professional filmmakers. As in years past, the HPLFF includes a mix of feature films, shorts, and discussion panels. This year's Shorts Film program includes a fascinating version of Poe's THE TELL-TALE HEART (that includes a voice recording of Bella Lugosi thought to have been lost for years), THE VEIL, two versions of THE MUSIC OF ERIC ZANN and more. Some of the feature films will include CREATURE OF THE WALKING DEAD and DEAD BIRDS. Discussion Panels will include: Ramsey Campbell, Scott Conners, Wilum Pugmire and Robert Price.

This year's special guests are:

  • Author Ramsey Campbell, the renowned British writer considered by many to be one of the masters of late 20th century horror fiction will talk about Lovecraft and the mythos.
  • Actress Barbara Crampton, the Lovecraftian scream queen who starred in such early hits as RE-ANIMATOR, FROM BEYOND and CASTLE FREAK will grace our stage.
  • Scholar Robert Price founder of Crypt of Cthulhu and editor of a score of mythos related horror anthologies will amaze us with the CTHULU PRAYER BREAKFAST.
  • Director Jay Woelfel who directed the award winning documentary TITANIC, and the short BATTLESTAR GALACTICA: SECOND COMING will be on hand to show us his first feature film BEYOND DREAM'S DOOR.

Admission is $12 for Friday, $15 for Saturday, & $15 for Sunday. Doors open on 6pm for Friday and 1pm on Saturday and Sunday. Advance ticket sales will be available by the beginning of September. Tickets can also be purchased at the door.

For more information visit the website at www.hplfilmfestival.com

  • Midnight: CAST A DEADLY SPELL - free admission! - Big thanks to HBO for offering us a free broadcast-quality master of one of the most original Lovecraft-inspired films out there! This star-studded and whip-smart detective story was originally made for television, and we're proud to be presenting it on the big screen! Los Angeles, 1948. Everybody used magic. Except, of course, for that hard-boiled, chain-smoking, mechanical-rationalist private dick H. Phillip Lovecraft - played by Fred Ward.

LURKER FILMS WEBSITE: http://www.lurkerfilms.com

HP LOVECRAFT FILM FESTIVAL OFFICIAL WEBSITE: http://www.hplfilmfestival.com

The HP Lovecraft Film Festival was founded in 1995 by Andrew Migliore in the hope that H.P. Lovecraft would be rightly recognized as a master of gothic horror and his work more faithfully adapted to film & television. This is the first time the festival has branched out to Austin.

Lurker Films is headquartered in Portland, Oregon and was founded in 1995 by Andrew Migliore to munch popcorn where cultists fear to tread, producing DVDs, Videos, and Audio CDs of the famous, infamous and just plain obscure films and television shows that have been directly or indirectly inspired by Lovecraft's work.
